I recently made a post on how to add local storage to a XenServer host. However in order to take advantage of some of the feature like HA and XenMotion, we need to have shared storage presented to the resource pool consisting of multiple XenServer hosts.
In my lab, I am going to be using iSCSI but before we jump into “How-To” part, I wanted to go over some of the storage options that are available on XenServer.
- NFS VHD
- Software iSCSI
- Hardware HBA
- StorageLink technology
- Windows File Sharing (CIFS)
- NFS ISO
I won’t describe every component listed above as it is pretty self explanatory, however there are a couple of components that I’d like to give a brief description of;
StorageLink Technology – This feature essentially allows us to offload storage specific functions to the storage array hardware
This is a nice graphic illustrating the StorageLink technology that can be found on the Citrix website
