I was recently building a VMware View lab and came across an issue when trying to deploy a Windows 7 64bit VM from a template using the customization wizard.
I had no issues deploying Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2008 R2 from a template using the customization wizard, so I suspected that it has to do with this particular template. First thing I did was verify if VMware tools were installed. Normally that’s the first thing I do but, who knows, maybe I forgot, however in this case the VMware tools were installed. I then came across this post where the user indicated that uninstalling and re-installing the VMware tools seems to have done the trick for him. After testing this theory on my VM, the issue seems to have been resolved as well. One thing to note, is that it seems like for me, the services was actually not registered on the VM, I could not find the VMtools service at all. After re-installing the tools, the service reappeared. The steps are fairly simple, I did the following:
- Uninstall VMware tools and reboot the VM
- Install VMware tools and reboot the VM
- Test Cloning and deploy from template using the customization wizard
All tests successfully completed.
